What is Included in Lawyer Services?

This article describes the specific legal services our attorneys can offer, and how that depends on the practice area, the client's state, the legal issue (federal vs. state law), and the client's plan. It is the source of truth the AI uses to decide whether — and how — to recommend a lawyer task.

How to read this document. It has two layers. Layer 1 (Client-facing) is the language the AI may share with, or paraphrase to, clients when asked.

Layer 2 (AI operating rules) are hard constraints the AI must follow before recommending any lawyer task.

Legal services are provided by Inhouse Counsel, P.C., a nationwide law firm whose attorneys supervise and are responsible for all legal work delivered through the Inhouse platform. The firm serves businesses, employees, and consumers in all 50 states. Our attorneys are licensed in California, New York, and Michigan. The firm's speciality is business.

Inhouse AI, Inc. provides the technology and, together with the AI, operates as an agent of the firm's attorneys — so that legal work product is reviewed by and stands behind an accountable, licensed attorney, and so that client communications remain within the attorney-client relationship.

Our attorneys practice across all areas of business law — formation, trademark and copyright, employment, contracts, M&A, and related matters. For example, they can:

• Explain general legal principles
• Draft and review any contract
• Represent clients in negotiations and transactional matters
• Send and respond to letters, including demand letters on firm letterhead
• Give strategic advice and assess risk
• Conduct legal research
• Handle federal matters (e.g., federal trademark and copyright registration) regardless of the client's home state
• Find and manage outside counsel, including for state-specific matters outside CA, NY, and MI

Within the states where they are licensed (CA, NY, MI), our attorneys can handle the full scope of the business-law matters listed above.

• Give state-specific legal advice for a state where the assigned attorney is not licensed
• Provide litigation-related services
• Appear in or represent clients before any court
• Guarantee a particular legal outcome or result

If the matter is governed by the law of a state where Inhouse Counsel is not yet licensed, the attorney works as the client’s federal and commercial counsel. In this role, they can strengthen how well the client’s document protects them, tighten its terms and structure, advise on the federal issues that apply everywhere, and identify which state-law issues or provisions the client should review with a licensed, local counsel.

Our attorneys all have high academic distinctions from top tier law schools, worked at AmLaw 100 law firms and were all in-house counsel. They each have more than ten years of experience, and have extensive practice experience in the following areas:

• Business formation and governance — setting up companies, operating agreements, bylaws, equity, buying or selling a business
• Contracts and commercial agreements — service agreements, purchase agreements, terms and conditions, NDAs, referral and construction agreements
• Disputes and pre-litigation — demand letters and responses, termination notices, evaluating disputes and settlements
• Software and technology — terms of service, privacy policies, software contracts, privacy and advertising rules
• Regulatory and compliance — guidance for fintech companies, preparing for exams, responding to regulators
• Intellectual property — licensing, evaluating patent and trademark claims, challenge options. (Inhouse Counsel do not file patent applications, which requires a separate registration with the patent bar).
• Financing — investment, funding, and commercial loan agreements
• Employment — contractor agreements, offer letters, employment and severance agreements, HR compliance, workplace investigations
• Tax — federal tax matters (audits, IRS letters, the administrative process) and state and local tax matters
• Estate planning — wills and trusts

AI Associate — $49/month

AI Associate gives users Inhouse’s legal AI assistant for everyday legal work: generate contracts, agreements, policies, and letters tailored to your business – as many as you need, whenever you need them. Ask unlimited legal questions and get clear, practical answers that explain how the law applies to your situation. Every document is yours to edit, download, and reuse.

AI Associate provides AI-generated documents and legal information. It does not include attorney review or legal advice from a licensed lawyer. If a matter calls for one, you can upgrade at any time.

Lawyer on Call — $149/month (starting)

Everything in AI Associate, plus a licensed lawyer when you want one. For $149, loop in a lawyer from our law firm to review an AI-generated document, confirm the AI’s answers about your legal matter, or meet for a half-hour consultation about your matter.

Document reviews cover up to 7 pages of your choosing. For longer documents, you and your lawyer will agree on a flat fee up front, based on the document’s length and complexity. Because our lawyers work alongside our legal AI, those fees run at a strong discount to what a traditional firm would charge, and you’ll always know the price before any work begins.

Inhouse Counsel — $499/month (starting)

Everything in AI Associate, plus a lawyer who acts on your behalf. Inhouse Counsel is built for businesses with a major legal project or ongoing legal work: each month, your lawyer can take on a substantial matter, such as negotiating a contract, sending a demand letter on firm letterhead, or working through a longer project with multiple document reviews. Your lawyer represents you in the matter, communicating with the other side so you don’t have to.

Inhouse Counsel provides up to five hours of attorney time over the course each month. If more lawyer work is needed in a month, you and your attorney can discuss a quote to cover the additional work.

Inhouse Counsel covers transactional commercial matters. It does not include court appearances, litigation, or general ongoing legal representation.

The AI applies this decision logic and treats it as overriding:

1. Classify the issue. Is it (a) federal law / general legal information, or (b) state-specific?
2. Check the state. Identify the client's relevant state and the governing law.
3. Match to licensure.
• Federal / general → may proceed in any state.
• State-specific → only if an assigned attorney is licensed in that state (CA, NY, MI) or the matter is governed by the law of a state where we're licensed.
• If neither applies → do not recommend the state-specific task. Offer what we can do (federal/general guidance, or managed outside counsel) and route to a human.
4. Match to plan. Recommend only tasks the client's plan includes; if the task requires a higher tier, say so plainly instead of implying it's available. Default to Lawyer on Call for lawyer tasks.
5. Never for any tier:
• Guarantee an outcome or result
• Imply an attorney-client relationship exists, or that representation has begun, before a conflict check and signed retainer.
• State that we appear in court.
• Recite specific attorney credentials or client ratings beyond the verified bio source.
• Quote a price as permanent; defer to current pricing.

• Active representation (out of court): the attorney acts on the client's behalf in transactional and negotiation matters — e.g., sending letters on letterhead, calls, negotiating — but does not appear before any court.
• One round of negotiation: one exchange on the client's behalf — we deliver the client's position or counter to the other side and handle their response — plus the resulting revisions. Further exchanges are additional tasks.
• Document review (up to 7 pages): review of a single document up to 7 pages, delivered as comments, redlines, or a call, covering legal risk, clarity, and recommended changes. Longer documents are billed per page at the plan's rate.

• The attorney-client relationship forms when the user signs the retainer agreement, which is included at sign-up for every paid plan (starting with Lawyer on Call).
• Because the AI and Inhouse AI, Inc. operate as agents of the firm's attorneys — the same basis on which a lawyer's staff and retained specialists fall within the privilege — communications handled through the platform for a signed client are confidential and protected by attorney-client privilege.
• Before a retainer is in place (e.g., free or pre–sign-up interactions), communications are kept confidential under our privacy practices but are not privileged.
